TOM’S Tune-Up...

The year was 2000 and I still remembered it as it was just yesterday. I was at a workshop in Serdang trying to install a pair of Toda cams onto a B16A engine which was to participate in the Batu Tiga, Shah Alam CCT event. Suddenly a pair of rear tail lamps caught my attention. It was illuminating in a circular red beam, encased in a clear plastic which was something out of the ordinary at that time, looking so radical yet perfectly complemented the appearance of the car. Curiosity got the better of me and I went over to this particular vehicle, which was getting fuelled up, to observe it from another angle. On closer inspection I found that the lights were from a model named Altezza and from the emblem, the make was clearly from Toyota.

Fast forward to 2008 and I must admit that the Altezza still bedazzle me. Some may argue that the attempt made by Toyota to create an “entry level luxury car” to compete with the European makes did not materialised as planned; but to Altezza enthusiasts this begs to differ as to these guys the Altezza, till now still command respect and holds the reputation of being an ‘eye catcher’ even when standing still.
