10,000 Horsepower Scorching Through the Night
The Sepang Drag Battle Round 3 received its biggest participation in its history, with more than 200 cars accumulating a figure of more than 10,000 horsepower from 7 categories line up together to compete in this fast and furious motorsports event. Crowds were seen swarming the track as early as 8.00pm and the paddock tickets were sold out before 10.00pm.
Machines such as R-Engineering Proton Satria 4WD, RMD Garage Nissan Silvia S13, GT Auto Mitsubishi Evolution 3, AMS Racing Proton Satria Turbo, just to name a few, came down all trying their best to clock the fastest time possible in order to clinch the championship title for the 2008 season. With C16 racing fuel and nitrous oxide systems now being allowed in Class A, high horsepowered machines can be expected to reach the 8 seconds time bracket, as till now the only car that managed to reach this time bracket was the Duke R33 GT-R back in 2006.
In Class B, the VTEC turbo machines were dominating much of the time in the pre-qualifying that night, even with contenders such as the rotary RX-7 machines, which were failing to launch perfectly when the lights turn green. Jamsari Yahya in a fully souped-up RB26 Nissan Silvia S13 was also having problems that night. The long-shaft snapped while he was trying to heat up the tyres, resulting in a major blow for the Johorian who was force to retire. Another disappointment was Enzo’s racing blue VTEC Turbo Honda Civic, which had an engine blowout during the quarter final run.
