SSO Drift Challenge


Following the success of the first round of the SSO Drift Challenge held in conjunction with the Pekan Fest not long ago, R3 Race.Rally.Research has decided to hold yet another action-packed drift event, this time in conjunction with the Super GT at the Sepang International Circuit with partners such as Motorsports Malaysia, Bridgestone, Sepang Circuit, Velocity Events Management and also Extremekars. The event which was held on the 23rd and 24th of June saw more than 60 drifters going side by side in paving their way to victory. It was simply breathtaking to see the best drifters from various drift communities such as Sync Optima, Angel D5, JB Drift, Drift.Com.My and many others participating in one huge event such as the Super GT SSO Drift Challenge.

    Head judge for the event was Malaysia’s D1 Drift 2006 champion, Tengku Djan Ley, the world number 5 drifter for D1 2006. Also present at this event was none other than the ‘Drift King’ himself, Keiichi Tsuchiya and Managing Director of Bridgestone Tyre Sales (M) Sdn Bhd, Yoshiaki Hiraishi and Ng Pui Choon from Bridgestone Tyre Sales (M) Sdn Bhd. After battling it out for 2-days, Tan Tat Wei with his TE71 has emerged as the champion for this round followed by Lim Zee King in second with a Nissan 180SX. Third was ‘celebrity’ driver (from Impak Maksima), Ser Meng Hui aka Ah Fai with his Toyota AE86. Apart from the drift event, other attractions include exhibition by participating sponsors and event co-sponsors at the exhibition area.

    The event was indeed another success and hopefully the people behind the success if this event will continue with the 3rd round soon!
