Toyota Celica Turbo - Pearl of the Orient

Hmmm… The 2001 Celica… It’s pretty, but for a real petrolhead, this car is rather lame. It could not be compared to the excellent Honda Integra DC5 Type-R, which is the best naturally aspirated sports car under 2000cc in the market. The fact that this car is mostly sold with automatic gearbox make it more of a chick car rather than a real guy car.

    The normally aspirated 1ZZ-FE 1.8 liter engine gives a respectable 145hp but it is still 75hp short from its nearest competitor – the Integra Type-R. Although there are available performance parts in the market for this engine, it is still not enough to give the Integra a run for its money. The easiest path for horsepower nirvana is to give this engine a boost – in the form of a custom made turbo kit.

    This featured Toyota Celica is owned by a Penang lad by the name of Alan Cheong, and he had bought this car in 2006 as his daily commuter around the island state. Being a modified car enthusiast, it was only natural that he ride didn’t remain stock for long…
