Nissan Silvia S13 - Kazama’s Katana
Some of you out there would be wondering as to why this almost 20 years old Nissan S13, which is built for drifting, is being prominently featured on this month cover. Well, the reasoning is simple, drift and show car never walk hand-in-hand as drift cars could be described as a lumberjack while show cars are the prom queen. But this featured car begs to differ, as what we have here is a mean drift machine with the muscle of Sylvester Stallone and the look of Gisele Bundchen! This car had won accolades in several auto styling competition in Johor and Singapore, the latest being awarded 1st positioning for the best race car concept award and 3rd positioning in the open class category at the Singapore Changi International Autoshow, all the while still burning rubber on the drift track!
This super hot car is owned by Kazama Autowork, located in Johor Bahru, and is pack to the brim with loads of aftermarket goodies. The engine bay is a mechanical work of art with every nut and bolt replaced with aftermarket parts. The stock SR20DET engine is stripped and completely rebuilt to Kazama’s specifications. The main block saw the introduction of HKS 86mm forged piston kit to its newly rebored housing – lined with HKS 86mm cylinder lining kit. The pistons are connected to a HKS H Section con rods while the stock crankshaft is balanced. All engine bearings were replaced with Power Enterprise F1 Black Metal bearings while the connecting rod and main block studs were replaced with items from ARP.
The cylinder head is like a sample from a HKS brochure. Kazama has replaced everything inside the cylinder head with HKS performance parts and left nothing stock. The camshaft were replaced with HKS Step 3 racing cam while the valve spring, retainers and rocker arm were all replaced with matching HKS parts. Both cam sprockets were replaced with – you guessed right, HKS sprockets. The block and cylinder head is then mated together by a layer of HKS 1.2mm metal head gasket. D-Max products were then used as replacement for the aluminum pulleys, a heat block board and the a oil pan, which at present is of a larger capacity…
