Proton Perdana - Taking Up d Challenge
Having an engine swap is the easiest method in gaining extra HPs and greater performance yet it seldom marks the end of an upgrading process. Take this featured Proton Perdana for example; one can see that although a 4G63T EVO II engine had made its way into the engine bay replacing the original Proton V6 engine yet the list of mods appears to be going on and on!
We’ll start from the top of the list, which points us to the process of cam swap. A cam swap is known to be able to yield good engine power increase even in a very well-designed engine such as the 4G63T as its design basically dictates the opening and closing of valves. Even the shape of the lobes and their orientation relative to each other has a dramatic effect on the power development of an engine. I guess the owner of this featured Proton Perdana and the guys at DNT Tuning (the people responsible for creating such a ‘power-licious’ recipe for this engine featured engine) also shares the same view in this matter. It was decided that a pair of Brian Crower Stage 4 Camshafts high performance camshaft along with a pair of adjustable cam gears should do the job in providing the extra HPs from the 4G63T EVO II engine. Sounds easy, right? Buy a pair of these high performance camshafts along with adjustable cam gears and install them. Well, it’s not THAT easy because installing a pair of performance cams and adjustable cam gears is one thing but getting the right cam timing is another and that’s what differentiates the capabilities of the thousands of engine builders and tuners around!
Next is the cylinder head port and polish process, which was done with precision by the guys at DNT Tuning. This process is aimed at improving the internal airflow yet do take note that it’s not all about BIGGER is BETTER! Simply making the port larger without taking into account the airflow characteristic will not always yield increased engine HP and that the reason I mentioned the term – precision!
