Nissan Silvia S15 – The ‘SideWay’ Recipe
A 380bhp Silvia S15 fitted with heaps of performance upgrading parts, advanced aerodynamics, sticky tyres and monster brakes… that’s what we’re dealing with here. And looking at the outcome, this mean looking monster was build with only one purpose in mind, and that is for drifting. Yes, you guess it right; it does belong to a drifter who refers to himself as the Drift Ninja. And yes, once again, his ride has spent countless hours at the hands of capable tuners and body stylists.
The first thing that Drift Ninja look into was ways to increase the HP of the SR20DET engine, a task that was given to the guys at Vis Works. It was mentioned that quite a few major components changes were done; such as a slight bump in displacement with the replacement of the pistons, which at present is fitted with bigger oversize high performance HKS 86mm pistons along with HKS 1.2mm metal head gasket. The stock cams were then replaced with a pair of HKS 264 (IN) 272 (EX) camshaft along with HKS adjustable cam gears, which will definitely help in finding the right cam setting for this engine. For higher durability, a complete valve kit from HKS has also been fitted. Among other performance enhancement parts that can be seen fitted were the complete Power Enterprise timing kit with Kevlar belting and black metal bearings and the HKS Super Power Flow 200/80 Air Filter. In order to improve the ignition, a set of HKS M40 Super Fire spark plug along with HKS twin power cables were also fitted.
A custom intake piping holds onto the stock turbocharger, which breathes into an external Tial 38mm wastegate and a complete HKS ‘silent high power’ exhaust system. A Koyorad 3-layer radiator, backed-up by an A’PEXi intercooler, HKS high-pressure radiator cap, a D-Max carbon fiber cooling panel and HKS oil cooler kit provides the necessary cooling capability. Polished intercooler hard pipes, with a fitting for a HKS SQV Type2 blow-off valve, provided a stronger seal against blowing off hoses from increased boost.
